The Power of "No"

Do you want to Super Size that? Can you help me move? Do you want to add another for just a dollar? Are you going to be able to make the party?

Social pressure is all around us and it always wants more. One of the biggest struggles I see with clients who are establishing health and wellness into their lives; is that they are unable to put themselves first. They are always saying "Yes" and "Sorry". As if taking care of themselves first is something to feel guilty about. As a coach for over 10 years; I'm here to tell you it's definitely ok to say "No" from time to time. If it means jeopardizing your progress or becoming overwhelmed then it's not worth it. Most people don't understand that when they set boundaries in order to make themselves happier they become the best version of themselves. When your needs are being met, it allows you to become a more empathetic person and want to truly give without feeling the need of reimbursement which can later lead to resentment. I get it. You want to be there for people, so they can be there for you. Well, sometimes you are going to have to learn how to be there for yourself.

Saying "No" could can be the catalyst to your new life. It's so small, yet powerful. Like the wind from a butterflies wings that causes a tsunami. After working with people for so many years. I've noticed how well people react to momentum. That even the smallest decision can lead to another and another. A great first step for someone looking to start putting their health and fitness first is to go out and say "No" to something. Then practice doing it again and again. Putting new habits in your lifestyle means your are going to have to say good bye to some old habits. Saying good bye to some old habits, even temporarily will require you to say "No". Your friends are going to want to go out on the weekends, family expects you to make every get together, your coworkers want to go get fast food for lunch. All these scenarios will happen and they will require you to say "No". The good news is that once you do it. You can do it again and it will start to feel more natural putting yourself first. Once putting yourself first becomes natural; it's a great mindset to continue forward into the world of health and fitness. Before even considering buying a gym membership or personal training lessons. I want you to say "No" to something everyday for 2 weeks. This is will be the wind from the butterfly wings that will cause the tsunami of awesomeness in your life.
