3 Surefire Ways A Beginner Can Prioritize Working Out

The New Years Hype Train has left the station and you are left in city where you don't know anyone or anything. Everyone has the courage to start their goals and New Years is a great point in time to "start over". So what happens? The problem with most people trying to reach their goals after New Years or in any point of time; Is that people don't know how to properly make a plan of attack. They want to eat better and start working out but they don't even know what that looks like. It's best to start with small steps and grow from there. Today, I will be discussing with you some great ways on how a beginner can prioritize their gym time so they can fall into a groove and build the habit that keeps on giving.

1.) Top 5 - Before you go out and buy all the necessities. I would highly encourage you to take a piece of paper and write down your Top 5 priorities. It's very normal to consider your family and work a higher priority than getting in shape. Does getting healthier and in shape even make the list? One of the things that is killing you even before getting started is that you don't consider your health and fitness a Top 5 priority. This is will affect your commitment to your goal because you will be committed to far too many things. Not to worry. Priorities are not set in stone for a life time. Priorities can change like the weather. When going into a health and fitness journey. Make it a Top 5 priority for the next 16 weeks and you will be shocked with the results. This doesn't mean you can't go out anymore or can't see friends. This means that for the next 16 weeks you will chose your gym time over being social. You can definitely do both, but when push comes to shove. You will have to chose the gym. Then after 16 weeks. Relax, be social, and decide whether you want be be more social or you want to keep gym time a priority.

2.) Calendar - Lisa's saxophone recital is 8pm, Zoom meeting at 4pm, Lunch with Bob at 1pm. All of these things get put in your calendar because they are commitments your make to your priorities. They are commitments to your job, family, and friends. How do you make a commitment to working out? The same way you treated all those other commitments. Get your calendar out and start blocking out chunks of time for yourself. That way you won't fall victim to waiting for a "free hour" to workout. We all know what happens. They day is busy and that hour never happens. Don't get discouraged. Go through your calendar for the next 30 days and pick out set times to work out. That way they become a priority just like everything else in your calendar.

3.) The Morning - For lots of adults. Getting off work and getting home is just like getting out of one car and getting into another. Kids need help with their homework. Have to go grocery shopping for dinner. Have to pay the bills. All this happens and before you know it; its 9pm and almost time for bed. When are you supposed to work out? The answer isn't always the most popular but it works. The morning. Get in the habit or waking up early and knocking your gym time out first thing. Working out first thing in the morning eliminates the chance of your gym time being pushed to the end of they day and thus never happening. Getting in the habit of waking up early only takes a week AT MOST. This will turn your "I don't have time" into "I will make the time". An added bonus to working out in the morning is how amazing your feel afterwards. It benefits your attitude and energy for the rest of the day. Have you ever noticed that the person you know who works out in the morning has way more energy and a better attitude than the person you know who sedentary, sleeps in and runs late? That's not a coincidence. Working out in the morning is the PERFECT way to get your day started.
